Delish Dishes

Last night I made something I haven't made in years. It sounds intimidating, but it's really not hard. It's just time consuming. I made chicken fried steak from scratch. YUM!

Last week I attempted something else as well. I think we, as Americans, throw a lot of things away which can be used again before tossing. Since things were hectic with our weekly shopping last Thursday, I picked up a chicken when we stopped at Sam's for milk. After finishing off much of the chicken, I pulled the rest for another meal, and then boiled the bones and skin, garlic powder, season salt, oregano, and onion powder in water for about two hours. The result was amazing! Steve walked in as I was pulling home made pizza out of the oven, and he commented on how amazing the house smelled. I laughed and told him that it wasn't from dinner either. He was smelling the amazing smell of the chicken broth I had made.

Here are the pizzas. One is BBQ and one is Pepperoni.

I'm using the broth for lunch tomorrow. Since we're gone shopping on Thursday mornings, I like to have something quick in the crockpot for when we get home. I put 1# of black beans and 1C regular rice in the crockpot with about 4 C frozen broth. I'll add cumin, chili powder, and cheese before I put it on the table for lunch tomorrow.

On a side note, what six year old, full of energy boy chooses to sit down and read? I couldn't believe it, but this one did this of his own accord!
